Keep Kyrene Strong

Stay connected with the latest on our efforts to keep Kyrene schools thriving. Here you’ll find quick updates, progress highlights, and ways you can get involved — all in one easy place. Check back often to see what’s new and how our community is coming together to support our schools.

We want to give you, our dedicated Mariposa families and Warner Ranch community members an update on what we have been doing to Save Mariposa and share updates from the Kyrene School District Governing Board.

What's new?

  • At last night’s Kyrene Governing Board meeting, they made changes based on feedback they have received. Watch the recording here.

  • The demographer created a new map based on that feedback (see attached)

  • Changes proposed:

    • Mariposa students, including the boundary that was previously split to go to Niños, will all now to goWaggoner

    • Mirada will stay open and Manitas will close.

    • Timeline

      • Mariposa would be open next school year (2026-2027) and then is proposed to close in the 2027-2028 school year.

      • Pueblo Middle School would follow that same timeline.

  • Updates should be posted to Kyrene's website shortly: https://www.kyrene.org/about-kyrene/governing-board/long-range-planning-committee.

Where do we go from here?

Let’s all remember that this process is not over

The board vote isn’t slated till December, and the board members are asking for community feedback.

We are proud of how this amazing Mariposa community has been united in our efforts to go through this process with unity, respect and thinking about what is best for Kyrene as a whole. We have been providing objective, measurable data to the Kyrene School Board.

Let’s continue through this next phase living our values and keeping our engagements with the board members and in the community solution oriented.

What’s next?

  • Focus our efforts on persuading the school board through the Regional Public Hearings, starting Oct. 16 and by sending emails to board members with a solution to keep Mariposa open.

    • Sign up to speak at the hearings here.

    • Stay tuned for recommendations on talking points for your email communications.

  • Support Mariposa Together efforts for awareness in our Warner Ranch community.

  • Analyze options for how we can provide solutions to the board to save Mariposa. Join us on Slack or reply to this email if you have ideas.

  • Talk with your neighbors about the importance of voting YES in November’s mail-in ballot election to Keep Kyrene Strong. Remember that this funds about 200 teaching positions and is not a new tax.

We are grateful for this community. We look forward to showing up — together — for our kids and our community in the months ahead.

Onward,

Mariposa Together
