Kyrene Long-Range Planning Update
September 22, 2025
Dear Kyrene Community,
The Kyrene Governing Board held a retreat on Friday, September 19, for further discussion of the Long-Range Planning Committee’s recommendation for school consolidation. The retreat was an opportunity for board members to ask questions and provide feedback on the recommendation.
That feedback included guidance from the board to preserve a full-school Dual Language option, which would be open-enrollment only. Individual board members also asked if it would be possible to:
minimize boundary splits if feasible,
keep additional schools open,
further explore gifted education options district-wide.
These considerations may require adjustments to the proposed boundary map. Kyrene’s demographer is reviewing possible revisions, which will be presented at a board retreat once the work is complete. This process is expected to take at least one week. Until then, there will be no changes to the map or the FAQs on the Kyrene website.
We understand the community will be eager to see potential changes, and we ask for your patience. Any revisions to the proposed boundaries will be shared publicly before hearings begin next month.
Just as Kyrene has been committed to transparency in this process, the district is equally committed to community engagement. These potential changes reflect that engagement process, and I encourage you to stay connected as this important work continues.
Sincerely,
Laura Toenjes
Superintendent
